Jesper Björnlund took his first podium in world cup

FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup was opened today with the first mogul competition in Freestyle Premiere Event in Suomu. Weather conditions were good for the race and night final (started 19.30 CET) was excited.

Swedish skier Jesper Björnlund took the first place. In qualification he was 12th but skied an awesome run in final and won with the points of 24.41. Since a long time Swedish skier took the first place in mogul world cup. Second in today’s race was Bryon Wilson with the points of 24.34 and third was last year’s world cup winner Alexandre Bilodeau.

“I’m super happy, this was my first podium and really the best result in world cup”, commented 24-year old Björnlund.

In ladies’ race Canadien Kristi Richards was the best with the scores 24.97. Richards was on the podium also in both Europa Cup races last weekend here in Suomu. Second was Japanese Aiko Uemura, double world champion from Japan 2009 and third was Hannah Kearney from USA.

“Today was a spectacular; it was really nice to start the season with the win. Chancing the schedule did not affect me at all, I was ready to ski and knew that”, Richards told.

Freestyle Premiere continues tomorrow with the second mogul world cup competition. Qualifications starts at 10.00 and finals at 14.00.
