Press Release, FIS Alpine World Cup Levi Reinfried Herbst of Austria was number one at men’s slalom at LeviReinfried Herbst of Austria won the men’s slalom World Cup race at Levi after his second, flawless run. Croatian Ivica Kostelic was second and Jean-Babtiste Grange of France was third. Herbst started his second run from the fourth place, made a solid run without mistakes finished first with the fastest time of the second run. “My first run was already good, I didn’t make any mistakes. On the second run I focused especially on the flat part of the course and I managed it well”, Herbst described his race. Ivica Kostelic started his second run well, but a small mistake on the steep part of the course cost him the first place on the podium. After a long pause caused by injuries, Kostelic wasn’t very confident about his chances before the race. “After the first run I thought that I might have a chance for success, as the steep part of the course went so well”, the Croatian, who finished the first run at sixth, stated. The last year’s winner Jean-Baptiste Grange was in the lead at the intermissions of the second run, but a major mistake at the beginning of the steep part of the course first seemed to drop the Frenchman from the podium. Eventually his speed was enough for the third place. “There was a small lining beside one of the poles that caused my mistake. It took me five gates before I managed to get my speed back”, Grange described the key moments of the second run. Andreas Romar was the only Finn to finish the raceJukka Leino suffered a knee injury yesterday during practices and had to withdraw from the race. The title of the number one skier of the Finnish team was left to young Andreas Romar. Romar didn’t make the finals after his 51st fastest time in the second run. “The upper part of the course went well, but the steep part was very hard for me. I was having troubles throughout the race”, Romar, who was in the top 20 racers at the intermission, told.
